Steven Bennett holds the role of partner and serves as the Co-Leader of the Mining Group, with his expertise also spanning the Corporate, Capital Markets, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Private Equity Groups, as well as the firm's practice in Emissions Trading & Climate Change. His legal work is concentrated on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, securities, private equity dealings, along with broad corporate and commercial law advice. Steven's experience shines in guiding both domestic and international clientele through complex, cross-border transactions within the mining and resources domain.

His representation includes a broad spectrum of entities and individuals, including companies, boards, special committees, and private equity sponsors, among others, across diverse M&A activities such as amalgamations, take-over bids, and purchase transactions. His counsel also extends to joint ventures, streaming and royalty agreements, and project acquisitions. Beyond these, Steven frequently assists in equity and debt offerings and advises on matters of corporate governance, securities law compliance, and stock exchange regulations. His advisory capabilities also include guidance on the acquisition and financing of carbon offset credits and navigating the emissions trading markets.

Professionally, Steven is affiliated with the Law Society of Ontario and both the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations.

His background is enriched with a certificate in Financial Analysis & Investment Management from the University of Toronto and a Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) designation from the Canadian Securities Institute, achieved in 2010. He is also recognized as a licensed prospector in Ontario.

Since being admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2011, Steven has been pivotal in significant transactions, such as advising Teck Resources Limited on the sale of its steelmaking coal business to Glencore plc, assisting Ivanhoe Electric Inc. with its initial public offering and dual listing, and representing Hochschild Mining plc in its acquisition of Amarillo Gold Corporation.
